Gateway to Lord Shiva, Haridwar also known as Gangadwara is one of the ancient holiest cities of India. It is situated in the Uttarakhand area. The river Ganga after starting its journey from Gangotri glacier enters the Indo Gangetic plains at the banks of this holy city.
It is also famous for the Kumbha mela which takes place every 12 years. There are several temples and bathing Ghats, each having its own mythological importance.
The famous Ganga Aarti which takes place each day in the evening around seven attracts a huge crowd. At the same time offering of lamps are done in all the temples together with the “Hari Ki Pairi” Gath aarti, which is one of the important ceremonies of the city, where small earthen lamps and flowers are offered in the Ganges. To view hundred of lamps flow in the holy waters of the Ganges is a spectacular sight.
